1. Overview
TrippBit acts as an intermediary between you and travel service providers (airlines, hotels). This means that cancellation and refund policies are determined by the travel provider, not by TrippBit.
Key Principle
Refunds follow the cancellation policy of the airline or hotel at the time of your booking. We facilitate cancellation requests but do not control or determine refund amounts.
Before booking, always review the cancellation policy displayed for your specific flight or hotel. This policy will determine what refund, if any, you are entitled to.
2. Flight Cancellations
Flight bookings are processed through Duffel and are subject to the fare rules set by individual airlines. There are typically three types of fares:
Non-Refundable Fares
These are typically the lowest priced tickets. If cancelled, you will not receive a refund. Some airlines may offer credit for future travel (minus fees).
Partially Refundable Fares
These fares allow cancellation with a fee. The refund amount is the ticket price minus the airline's cancellation fee.
Fully Refundable Fares
These flexible fares allow full refunds if cancelled before departure. These are typically the most expensive ticket options.
Airline-Initiated Cancellations
If an airline cancels your flight or makes a significant schedule change, you are typically entitled to:
- A full refund to your original payment method
- Rebooking on an alternative flight at no extra cost
- Additional compensation under EU261/UK261 for flights departing from or arriving in the UK/EU (where applicable)
3. Hotel Cancellations
Hotel bookings are processed through LiteAPI and are subject to individual hotel cancellation policies. Common policy types include:
Free Cancellation
Many hotels offer free cancellation up to a certain deadline (e.g., 24-48 hours before check-in). After this deadline, cancellation fees apply.
Always check the specific deadline shown at the time of booking.
Non-Refundable Rates
Some hotels offer discounted non-refundable rates. These bookings cannot be cancelled for a refund. The full amount is charged at time of booking.
Partial Refund
Some hotels charge the first night or a percentage of the booking if cancelled. The remaining amount is refunded.
No-Shows
If you do not arrive at the hotel without cancelling your reservation ("no-show"), you will typically be charged the full booking amount or the first night's rate, depending on the hotel's policy.
4. Cryptocurrency Refunds
For bookings paid with cryptocurrency, refund processing involves additional considerations:
Important Notice
Cryptocurrency refunds are subject to exchange rate fluctuations. The refund amount in crypto may differ from the original payment due to market price changes between booking and refund.
- Refund Method: Where possible, refunds will be processed to your original cryptocurrency wallet
- Exchange Rate: Refunds are calculated based on the exchange rate at the time of refund processing
- Network Fees: Blockchain network fees (gas fees) may be deducted from the refund amount
- Processing Time: Crypto refunds may take 5-10 business days plus blockchain confirmation time

6. Refund Processing Times
Once a refund is approved by the travel provider, processing times vary by payment method:
| Payment Method | Processing Time |
|---|---|
| Credit/Debit Card | 5-14 business days |
| Bank Transfer | 3-7 business days |
| Cryptocurrency | 5-10 business days + network confirmation |
Note: These times begin after the airline or hotel approves the refund. Provider processing may add additional time.
7. Exceptional Circumstances
In certain exceptional circumstances, standard cancellation policies may not apply:
Force Majeure Events
Natural disasters, pandemics, war, terrorism, or government travel restrictions may result in:
- Airlines offering flexible rebooking or full refunds regardless of fare type
- Hotels waiving cancellation fees
- Extended time to use travel credits
Airline/Hotel Bankruptcy
In the unfortunate event a provider ceases operations:
- Card payments may be protected by chargeback rights
- Travel insurance may provide coverage
- TrippBit cannot guarantee refunds but will assist where possible
8. TrippBit Service Fees
Regarding our service fees:
- TrippBit service fees are generally non-refundable
- If a booking cannot be completed due to our error, service fees will be fully refunded
- If an airline or hotel cancels your booking, we will refund our service fee
